Invited to Thanksgiving dinner? Flowers are a beautiful thank-you to the host — if you choose them right. Here is how to bring flowers that help, not add work, on one of the busiest days of the year.
Bring flowers that are ready to place
On Thanksgiving the host is cooking, greeting guests and setting the table. The last thing they need is to look for a vase and scissors. Choose an arrangement in a vase or a box that can go straight onto the table or the kitchen counter.
Keep the centerpiece low
A good table centerpiece is low enough for guests to see and talk to each other across the table. If you want something tall and dramatic, it is better for a side table or the entrance.
Warm autumn colors
Orange and peach roses, burgundy and yellow chrysanthemums, golden alstroemeria, dried grasses and eucalyptus all look perfect next to a fall table. Light scents are best so they don’t compete with the food.
Send them the day before
The nicest gift is flowers that arrive on Tuesday or Wednesday, before the cooking starts. The host can enjoy them, decide where they look best, and the flowers will be fully open by dinner. Thanksgiving week fills up quickly, so we recommend ordering a few days early — you can choose the delivery date at checkout.
